Meet The CWBi Instructors
 | Norm’s training, qualification and experience includes certification under CSA W178.2 Level II Welding Inspector with CSA W47.1 (steel) & W47.2 (aluminum) endorsements, International Welding Specialist status from the IIW (International Institute of Welding), Quality Assurance Manager/CWB Welding Supervisor under CSA W47.1 & W47.2, Radiograph Interpretation, CWB Institute Welding Module Program, ISO 9000 Lead Auditor, CWB Qualified Welder (steel & aluminum) in all major welding processes and graduate of MB Red River College Welding Program.
Norm continues to participate on various welding committees: MB Apprenticeship Welding Advisory Committee, Chair of Red River College Welding Advisory Committee, Manitoba Steel Fabricators Association and CWA Executive Committee Member (Canadian Welding Association). Norm’s continues to volunteer his time and efforts to local colleges & schools promoting the welding trade and providing technical resources.
Employed with the CWB as a Certification Service Representative/Trainer for the past 13 his teaching focus is primarily directed to welding supervisors, QC personnel, engineers and welders who wish to qualify and/or increase their knowledge of CSA welding standards, welding symbols, weld faults and quality control & inspections methods. |  | Martin graduated with a Bachelor degree in Education from UQAM and in Management from HEC (UdM). He is a CSA 178.2 Level 3 certified welding inspector and an IIW certified "International Welding Practitioner". After 10 years with Air Liquide and 3 years as a teacher in metallurgy, he joined the CWB in the summer of 2002. In his present position within the CWB as a certification representative/trainer, he shares his time between training and inspection. Martin delivers training for welding supervisors (steel and aluminum), welding inspectors (level 1 & 2) and on hand training for welders. He also provided training on various codes and standards on behalf of the “Institut de Soudure” (IS-France) in Europe. Martin is the CWA Montreal Chapter’s Chair.

|  | Jim is a graduate of Dalhousie University with a B.Sc. in Geology/Biology and is also a Certified Engineering Technician. He holds his CSA W178.2 Level 3 qualification as a welding inspector with endorsements for CSA W47.1/W59 and W47.2/W59.2. As well he holds an International Welding Specialist diploma with the International Welding Institute and is qualified as a lead auditor for quality management systems.
He has over 20 years of fabrication experience including marine, offshore oil & gas, power generation and heavy industry projects. He has been with the Canadian Welding Bureau for over 17 years and is presently the Regional Manager for the Atlantic Region delivering training seminars for welding supervisors (steel & aluminum) as well as welding inspectors (Level 1 ) as well as auditing clients to quality systems to ISO 9001 as well as CISC requirements.

|  | Brian graduated from Althouse College and the University of Western Ontario in Technical Studies. He worked as a Maintenance Welder for 31 years at Stelco. There he was a Health and Safety Instructor and certified under the Workers Health and Safety Centre. He has a certificate of qualification for Welder (Red Seal) and Structural Fitter, and is a Level 1 Inspector. Currently Brian is working as a Training Representative for the CWB.

|  | Harvey’s vast training includes certification as a Welding/Engineering Technologist, Welding Inspector and a Steel Fabricator / Boilermaker. He was employed as a Welding Instructor/Assistant Program Head at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology. There he instructed welding courses for the apprenticeship program and related continuing education courses. Harvey continues to involve himself in the industry with his various welding affiliations. Among them include the CWA and the CSA. His experience and knowledge has led him to become a CWB instructor.

|  | Mick’s education includes a M. Sc in Welding Technology, a B. Sc. In Metallurgy and he is also a Certified International Welding Engineer. He has been involved with joining and NDE in the nuclear, structural, aerospace, marine, oil and gas, defense industries, micro-electronics and offshore production and exploration. During his previous years with the CWB, he managed and directed the certification of all companies fabricating structural components for the Hibernia platform, a global fabrication project. Mick currently works in the CWB Business Development Group and as an instructor.

|  | Dwayne is a Certified Level II Welding Inspector with many years’ experience in quality assurance, non-destructive examination, and practical industry experience. He began his career in the welding trade with Dominion Bridge and spent 18 years learning the structural fabrication industry from the ground up. During this time he trained as a fabricator, welder, and finally as an Inspector for fabrication, welding, and coatings. He then moved on to a manufacturing environment where he was involved in R&D, Inspection, and Document Control for a military subcontractor providing equipment for both the Canadian US departments of defense. Dwayne joined the Canadian Welding Bureau as a Certification Services Representative before taking on the responsibility of Supervising the Western Region of the CWB. Dwayne is also an Executive member of the CWA Edmonton Chapter.

|  | Jered is motivated to help educate and share experiences with others to promote public safety, best practice and proper welding techniques. He is currently working as a Certification Representative, Trainer and Productivity Auditor with the Canadian Welding Bureau. Jered’s wide spread training and certification include CSA Level Two Welding Inspector, Red Seal Journeyman welder, ASME qualified “B” Pressure welder, CVIP transport Trailer Inspector/mechanic, second year apprentice Heavy Duty Mechanic and has been trained in Productivity Assessment, auditing techniques and Welding Health and Safety.

|  | Darcy is a certified Level III welding inspector, a RAB certified lead auditor with many years experience in quality assurance, non destructive weld examination, project management and practical industry experience as a journeyman welder and journeyman steel fabricator.
Currently involved as a technical committee voting member with various code and standard committees such as; the Z662 Construction SC for Canadian Pipelines, AWS D1.3 Structural Sheet Steel subcommittee, (Chair) AWS D1.6 Structural Stainless Steel subcommittee, AWS D1.1 Inspection and Qualification subcommittees. Darcy is also a member of provincial Building Official Associations, the Saskatchewan Steel Fabricators and Erectors Association (SSFEA), the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction (CISC) Central, Alberta and BC regions and has previous CWA Executive experience with the Winnipeg and Edmonton Chapters.

|  | Josh graduated from the Institute of Technical Trades with a diploma in the Welder/Fitter program. He has also completed courses at Ryerson University and Centennial College in both Mechanical Graphic Engineering and Autocad. His previously employment in the welding industry included working in research and development and jig/fixture design. He was also a welding supervisor at Hyprescon Pressure Pipe.
He is certified as a CSA Level 2 Welding Inspector, American Welding Society Certified Welding Inspector, International Welding Specialist and has his Certification of Qualification as a welder (red seal). Josh has worked with the CWB as a Certification Services Representative for 5 years in both International and Ontario regions.

|  | Bill Eccles has 34 years of experience in the welding and fabrication industry. Bill is a certified CSA W178.2 Level 2 Inspector and a certified IIW International Welding Specialist. Before joining the CWB in 2005 Bill spent 28 years in the welding distribution industry and was responsible for multimillion dollar sales to large manufacturing companies in Eastern Ontario. Bill worked with these manufacturers introducing new welding technologies and processes that helped to increase productivity and performed training on welding processes and safety. Today Bill works for the CWB Group in the certification of companies to the CSA Welding Standards and as a qualified CWB Training Instructor.

|  | Sheldon graduated from Central Newfoundland Regional College with a Diploma in Welding, also an Adult Learning Course at Durham College. Certified as a level 1 Welding Inspector, Red Seal and a Journeyman Welder, Sheldon brings over 12 years of experience as welder/ fitter within the fabrication industry. He is currently an International Certification Services Representative, assisting companies with certification, welder training and welding supervisor Standards training.

|  | Mohamed graduated from a two year welding program in Montreal, Quebec. He worked as a combination welder in many industries including construction, Sheet-metal, Structural, Pharmaceutical and Nuclear. He is a qualified level 2 Welding Inspector and is currently employed by the CWB Group as a Certification Services Representative. Mohamed also conduct onsite training as needed.

|  | Nigel brings a wealth of hands on experience to the CWB group having spent years working for the family business that supplied welding and fabricating for the Vancouver boat building industry. His tenure at the CWB has exposed him to a number high profile projects and experiences. Currently he is instructing CWB group seminars.

|  | Alan has an extensive background in Quality Assurance and has held numerous management positions in Organizations such as: Aecon Industrial, COMSTOCK Canada LTD., and BFC Industrial-NICHOLLS RADTKE/ BORSIG VALVE NR INC. His responsibilities entailed managing all matters pertaining to quality. In addition to business, Alan was also a resident Instructor at NDE Institute of Canada where his main responsibility was for classroom and workplace training of subject methods. His role included in plant training courses in Canada and overseas.
Alan’s qualifications stems from numerous courses and certifications that he has obtained over the years some of which include: C.G.S.B. 48-GP-7m Level I, II, III (Ultrasonic), C.G.S.B. 48-GP-8m Level I, III (Magnetic Particle), C.G.S.B. 48-GP-9m Level I, III (Liquid Penetrant) and A.S.N.T. Level III by Examination (Ultrasonic). He is also an Honours Graduate from The Canadian Institute of Management.
Alan’s trained background and dedication to quality assurance will enable him to share his experience and knowledge in his field and in his classroom.

|  | Corie Doyle is a radiation safety consultant who specializes in providing regulatory compliance advice and training to companies and workers who perform industrial gamma radiography in Western Canada. She worked for MDS Nordion and CNSC before becoming a Radiation Safety Consultant. She has participated in various internal and external audits for both Radiation Protection Programs and Quality Management Systems. She is a graduate of the Nuclear Medicine Technology program at BCIT. Her training includes Lead Auditor training (QMI/ISO) and Root Cause Analysis training (TapRooT®). She has been instructing CEDO and RSO courses for INTEG since 2007. |  | Douglas is a graduate of Electrical Engineering and has earned post Graduate certificates in Engineering and Manufacturing Sciences, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing Management and Small Business Entrepreneurship.
Douglas’s qualifications include accreditation in ISO 9712-2005 Level 2 Certification, CAMC Level 3 Canadian Aviation Maintenance Council, ASNT Level 3 and NAS 410 (ATA101/Milstd410) Level 3. He has maintained professional memberships with CINDE (Canadian Institute for Non Destructive Examinations), CAMC (Canadian Aviation Maintenance Council), CWA (Canadian Welding Association) and OAC (Ontario Aerospace Council) and for the past 27 years he has held senior management positions for various organizations, most recently as Director, National Standing Trade Advisory Committee at Canadian Aviation Maintenance Council.
Employed at INTEG, Douglas brings a wealth of experience and professionalism to the Industry.

|  | Ralph has over 50 years in the Inspection Industry at all levels from technician to supervision and educator. He is certified to CAN/CGSB 48.9712 ISO 20807 (UT) Level III.
Certified to SNT UT, MT, LT for numerous companies as well as being an ISO Lead Auditor. Participated in all of the Inspection Elements for the CWB/Welding Institute of Canada home study program manual.
Ralph has taught at INTEG for 11 years in UT, MT, LT and Material and Processes as well as a teaching UT at STELCO as part of an in-house program. He has lectured at Seneca, Sheridan and Niagara Colleges for Canadian Manpower in UT, MT and LT and also at the CSNDT at Mohawk College in UT as well as McMaster University to second year undergraduate engineering students in the 5 major nondestructive methods.

|  | Michael M. Thorney have over 28 years’ experience in the Sales, Marketing, Business Process Improvement, Quality Assurance, Auditing, and Supply Chain Management in CAD/CAM Systems Technology, eCommerce, Manufacturing, Health Care Industry and the Sewn Products Industries. Mr. Thorney’s exposure to the corporate world has put him in contact with many of the decision makers in America and Canada's Fortune 500 companies. He has progressively sought more challenging projects and focus experience in Sales, Marketing and Productivity Improvement.
Mr. Thorney has worked as a senior consultant and was successful in conducting and managing multiple concurrent Productivity Improvement Projects, Lean Manufacturing and ISO Certification Implementation and Audits. Provided expert technical and methodological direction in testing state-of-the-art software/hardware solutions involving hardware of various capacities, multiple operating environments to support process flow improvements and certification based on ISO 9001 series standards. Coordinate with technical staff to ensure that all aspects of work are consistent and compatible with corporate, industry practices, terms, and procedures. Develop and implement standards, quality assurance requirements, and compliance to budget and schedule. Coordinate with contractor management, other contractor technical specialists and government project managers to ensure problem resolution and customer satisfaction. Conducts reviews with contractor management and government personnel on results.
He is a graduate with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering and is currently pursuing his MBA; and the Air Force Academy with Diplomas in Aeronautical Studies.

|  | Rod’s broad training spans over 35 years in the welding industry and includes Alberta Journeyman Welder qualification, Red Seal recognition, Alberta “B” Pressure Certificate of Competency, and a diploma in Welding Engineering Technology. He is currently recognized as a C.E.T by ASET, I.W.T by the IIW and is a CSA W178.2 Level III Welding Inspector. He has been involved in the energy sector in Alberta and B.C. as a welding fabrication business owner, a metallurgical laboratory technician and an Auditor for CSA Standards. Rod has 14 years of experience with the CWB, providing client service to CSA Standards requirements and instructing related courses tailored to CSA certification standards. Rod is a member of the CWA and continues to be an active participant in CWA operations.

|  | André is a graduate of École Polytechnique de Montréal (University of Montreal) earning a Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering (B.ing.). He holds a CSA W178.2 Level 3 qualification as a welding inspector with endorsements for CSA W47.1/W59 and W47.2/W59.2. As well he holds an International Welding Engineer (IWE) diploma with the International Welding Institute (IIW).
He has been with the CWB Group for over 19 years and is presently the Quebec Operations – Supervisor overviewing the certification services and training delivers by the CWB Group employees in the Quebec Province. André’s past experiences within the CWB include: • Welding procedures review; • Delivering training for welding supervisor (steel and aluminum);` • Delivering training for level 1 & 2 welding inspectors • Delivering training on metallurgy and weld joint design.
